Martin and Woods injured in preseason game

Two starting players for the Cowboys, guard Zack Martin and safety Xavier Woods, left Saturday’s preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals early after sustaining leg injuries.

According to ESPN.com’s Todd Archer, the knee injury sustained by Martin is an hyperextention and not a dreaded ligament tear, and the Pro Bowl offensive lineman will likely be ready for the regular season opener against the Carolina Panthers.

The news on Woods does is not as optimistic, as a strained hamstring may force the starting defensive back to miss week one. The safety position is already somewhat shallow, with Marquestion Huff dealing with a groin pull and third string Kavon Frazier has been limited with swelling in his knee.

The Cowboys also received a blow to the defensive line with the news that Datone Jones suffered a sprained MCL and could miss a few weeks of action.

Dallas and Carolina begin the regular season on September 9th at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
