Vance Jackson joins JJ Caldwell in the transfer portal

University of New Mexico fans woke up to the news that point guard JJ Caldwell entered the transfer portal after one season with the Lobos. Considering Caldwell’s frustration with the way the university handled his suspension for a battery charge that was eventually dropped, it was not much of a surprise the Galveston, Texas native would look to play elsewhere in 2020-21.

The news of Vance Jackson also opting to enter the transfer portal might have come at a surprise to some.

Jackson announced via Twitter that “It was definitely one of the hardest decisions of my life, but after praying to the Man above and thinking it through with my family, I feel this decision is best for my future as a player.”

Jackson played in 28 games for UNM list past season, averaging 11.1 points per game and a team-best 5.2 rebounds. His best season came in 2018-19 when he averaged 13.1 points per game and seven rebounds.
