CAUGHT ON THE WEB: Former Academy standout linked to Yankees ace

Max Walla and CC Sabathia.![]()
What do they have in common? Not a lot, but Walla, the former Academy baseball star and Milwaukee Brewers draft pick, and Sabathia, the New York Yankees pitcher, will always be linked -- at least according to this link.
Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star Tribune noted that Sabathia, the former Brewer, was a Class A free agent before signing with the Yankees. As such the Brewers received two compensatory picks for Sabathia when he signed with New York. One was Walla.
It's official: former Artesia star Landry Jones has been named the No. 2 quarterback at Oklahoma, behind Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford.
Jones, who was named for legendary Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry and grew up next to Artesia's Cooper Henderson, the most respected coach in New Mexico, is a red shirt freshman. Unless Bradford gets hurt, don't expect to see Jones too much. The Sept. 12 battle against Idaho State is one prime candidate.
OU opens the season againt BYU at the punt-unfriendly Cowboys Stadium. It's a nice matchup for a season opener, but it's also the reason UNM's opener at Texas A&M won't be televised (well, part of the reason).
Another example of UNM football coach Mike Locksley's connections comes from Locksley's Twitter page. Locksley tweeted this yesterday ...
"Good friend and mentor Bobby Beathard former GM for Chargers and my beloved Redskins was driving through ABQ stopped in to see me."
Locksley updates his Twitter account regularly, so check it out.
