Lobos baseball

FM Sports Radio 101.7 The Team will bring you University of New Mexico baseball this spring, as the team chases conference title.

In conjunction with UNM and Lobo Sports Properties, the Team will broadcast 26 games live from Isotopes Park and on the road in FM stereo.

The first broadcast will be Feb. 19-21 as the Lobos take on preseason No.1 Texas in Austin.

“I am really excited,” said Lobos head coach Ray Birmingham. “We are trying to build a program and we need exposure in the state. The Team is going to constantly put us in front of the kids we want to come play baseball for us. The bottom line is we need to build pride in this university as the flagship academic institution in the state. The Team is essential in that becoming a reality and a key ingredient in making that happen.”

Said KQTM president Joe O’Neil: l“It’s a great honor to broadcast Lobo baseball."

Added KQTM General Manager David Dominguez: “We look forward to providing the best coverage of Lobo baseball ever. Coach Birmingham and the student-athletes deserve to have a quality broadcasts of their games, and we will provide that."

Calling the action for Lobo home games will be Lobo football and men’s basketball play-by-play announcer Scott Galetti. Galetti has covered Lobo athletics for the last two years and previously called baseball for Long Beach State University and the High Desert Mavericks, the single-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners.

KQTM’s ownership group includes longtime Lobo Club members Scott and Laura Grady and Turner and Margaret Branch. Grady is a former punter for the Lobo football team in 1976.

Of the 26 games to be broadcast on 101.7 The Team, 16 will be from the friendly confines of Isotopes Park. The broadcasts will feature key home series with in-state rival New Mexico State (March 9-10), Louisiana Tech (March 14), Utah (March 19-21), San Diego State (March 26-28), BYU (April 8-10), San Francisco (April 20) and TCU (May 7-9) will be featured.

Fans also will be able to follow the Lobos on the road. Series with preseason No. 1 Texas (Feb. 19-21), San Diego State (April 30–May 2), Utah (May 20-22) and the Mountain West Tournament from San Diego, Calif. (May 25-29) also will be available.

Lobo Sports Properties, a property of Learfield Sports and multimedia rights holder for the University of New Mexico Athletics, has the University’s exclusive broadcast rights.
