Paul Weir and the University of New Mexico men’s’ basketball made a big splash on the recruiting trail on Wednesday with the announcement via Twitter that 6-foot-11 post Antwan January signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Lobos.
January, the cousin of former UNM star and current Milwaukee Bucks guard Tony Snell, made the announcement via his personal Twitter account.
The 19-year old native of Los Angeles, California, no doubt was influenced by the strong relationships at the school built with Snell, including UNM assistant coach Brandon Mason.
January initially committed to Illinois back in November, but changed his mind and will play for the cherry and silver this fall.
With a four-star grade by both Rivals and 247Sports, the signing is a massive win for Weir and his coaching staff.
