UNM Basketball: JaQuan Lyle suspended two games for conduct detrimental to the team

According to a release from the UNM athletic department, redshirt senior guard JaQuan Lyle has been given a two-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team. A female UNM athlete was shot in the leg while attending a party at a house rented by Lyle last Saturday.

Lyle issued the following statement on his Twitter feed regarding the incident:

“At the time, I thought it was the responsible thing to do to find a safe place for fun with some students and friends. Looking back at it now, I can see that I should have had way better judgment. My focus should have been on my academics, my health, and supporting my teammates coming from their game. I apologize for the publicity this has created.”

Although Lyle’s status for this game was already up in the air due to a knee injury, his absence due to this off-court issue is a devastating loss for a UNM team looking to upset No.4 San Diego State on Wednesday Night at DreamStyle Arena.

Lyle leads the team with 17.1 points per game on the year.
