Tony Romo made his first regular season appearance since Thanksgiving of 2015 on Sunday against the Eagles, completing three of four passes for 29 yards, including a three-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Williams on a beautifully designed play on a fake bubble screen.
Romo played in just one series, enough to show that he has shaken off the rust from a year-plus on the shelf, and is ready to spell rookie Dak Prescott should the moment arise in the playoffs.
Some Cowboy fans yearning for the past took to social media to share their opinion that Romo proved he should be the quarterback going forward. But Prescott, a rookie sensation from Texas A&M who led the Cowboys to an impressive 13-3 regular season record, did nothing to lose the job and head coach Jason Garrett intends on giving him the reigns to the team in the playoffs.
When asked about Romo’s touchdown pass and leading the team to a score in his sole possession, Garrett was succinct in his answer to the media by stating that Romo did a “Nice Job.”
Romo was a bit more open to reporters about his day, but was a bit taken back when asked if he had learned anything from the performance.
“Did I learn anything today?” Romo said. “That’s a good question. I don’t know how to answer that. I think more than anything you just play football. You go out there and if you’re good enough to play, you’re good enough to play.”
Romo proved that he is still good enough to play, and could be a vital part of the team’s playoff push should Prescott get injured or struggle when the team looks for a sixth Lombardi trophy.
