Another week, another wave of statement performances across University of New Mexico athletics.
From a historic unbeaten run on the baseball diamond to championship dominance on the indoor track, milestone victories in women’s basketball, a marquee win at The Pit, and a loaded volleyball signing class ushering in a new era, the Lobos continue to build momentum in every season currently in motion.
⚾ Baseball: 12-0 and Still Rolling
The red-hot start for New Mexico Lobos baseball has officially reached historic territory.
After sweeping St. Thomas in four games, the Lobos improved to 12-0 — one of just three unbeaten Division I teams remaining, joining the USC Trojans and Texas Longhorns.
Late-Inning Magic Continues
New Mexico’s weekend was defined by clutch execution:
-
Game 1 (11-6): A six-run second inning flipped an early deficit before Josh Barnhouse slammed the door with two dominant innings of relief.
-
Saturday DH Sweep (5-1, 4-3): Damian Garcia and Gene Trujillo provided eighth-inning power in Game 1, while Garrett Rede delivered another walk-off hit in Game 2 — the Lobos’ third last-at-bat victory of the season.
-
Sunday Finale (7-3): Rede homered and drove in three, while Cooper Corkrean tossed five scoreless innings in relief to complete the sweep.
Across the series, UNM continued to show balance — timely hitting, shutdown relief, and the ability to respond immediately to momentum swings. The 12-0 start marks the program’s best opening in more than 50 years.
Up next: a rivalry road trip to Las Cruces to face New Mexico State.
🏀 Women’s Basketball: 20 Wins and a Clinched Bye in Sight
The New Mexico Lobos women’s basketball added two massive Mountain West wins — including a milestone night for head coach Mike Bradbury.
Win No. 200 for Bradbury
UNM defeated Utah State Aggies women’s basketball 69-54 on the road, marking:
-
The 20th win of the season (fourth 20-win season in five years)
-
Bradbury’s 200th career win at UNM
-
The Lobos’ 19th straight win over Utah State
Joana Magalhães led with 14 points, Nayli Padilla added 12 off the bench, and Jessie Joaquim recorded her second straight double-double. The Lobos shot a season-best 50% from three and dominated the glass 48-28.
Comeback in Reno
UNM followed with a gritty 63-56 win at Nevada, clinching no worse than fifth place in the Mountain West.
Cacia Antonio scored 18 — including a crushing late spin move to seal the game — while the Lobos turned the tables on the boards after being outrebounded in the first meeting. UNM has now won nine of its last 11 games and can secure a first-round bye with another victory.
🏀 Men’s Basketball: Pit Magic Returns
The New Mexico Lobos men’s basketball delivered one of the most electric wins of the season, rallying to defeat the San Diego State Aztecs 81-76 in front of 15,411 at The Pit.
Tomislav Buljan dominated with 24 points and 18 rebounds — tying the freshman school record with his 12th double-double. Luke Haupt added 17, Jake Hall extended his double-figure scoring streak to 15 games, and Uriah Tenette provided clutch late scoring.
After trailing by 11 in the first half, UNM executed late:
-
Tenette corner three
-
Haupt’s go-ahead triple with 43 seconds left
-
Deyton Albury’s free throws to seal it
It was the third double-digit comeback win of the season and another reminder that “Pit Games” remain one of college basketball’s most formidable environments.
🥎 Softball: Late-Inning Firepower at UNM Invitational
The New Mexico Lobos softball team went 4-1 at the UNM Invitational, highlighted by dramatic finishes and dominant pitching.
Walk-Off Thriller vs. UTEP
Trailing 7-3 in the seventh, UNM stormed back before Jessica DeLeon delivered an eighth-inning walk-off single against the UTEP Miners.
Miracle McKenzie homered in the comeback, and McKenna Guest closed out extra innings.
Run-Rule & Shutout Saturday
The Lobos followed with:
-
11-2 run-rule win over Houston Christian
-
5-0 shutout of Tarleton State
Allie Williams exploded at the plate with five hits and five RBI on Saturday, while freshman Caitlin Benningfield threw a complete-game shutout in Game 2.
UNM finished the weekend 9-9 overall and now heads on the road with momentum.
🏐 Volleyball: Brian Hosfeld Era Begins with International Flair
The future of New Mexico Lobos volleyball took shape this week as head coach Brian Hosfeld announced his first signing class.
The three 2026 additions bring size, versatility, and international pedigree:
-
Campbell Hollister (6-1 MB, Arizona) – First Team All-5A East Sky honoree with national club success.

The class signals an aggressive recruiting approach blending domestic and international experience as UNM builds toward sustained conference contention.
🏃♀️ Indoor Track & Field: Back-to-Back Champions

On the women’s side, the New Mexico Lobos women’s golf finished ninth at the Lady Luck Invitational, ahead of nationally ranked Baylor and Texas Tech. Chelsea Truong and Ava Cepeda each finished at 10-over to lead the team.
