The Lobos are still searching for their first road victory of the season after losing to the UTEP Miners 88-76 on Saturday Night.
Sam Logwood led the Lobos with 22 points on 8 of 12 shooting, with a team-high four assists, while Antino Jackson added 10 points and Anthony Mathis scored 13, including a team-best three shots behind the arc.
Five separate Miners posted double figures in points against UNM, including a game-high 28 points from senior guard Omega Harris. The 6-3, 175 lbs native of Bethany, Oklahoma set a personal scoring mark at UTEP, shooting an impressive 9 of 11 from the field and perfect four of four from behind the arc.
Logwood kicked off the game with a jumper on opening possession after the Lobos won the tip. The two teams would exchange baskets until the Miners took the lead for good when Kobe McGee scored on a layup with 13:11 left in the first half.
After heading to the locker room down 45 – 31, the Lobos would battle back in the second period but never managed to tie the game. Chris McNeal moved UNM within five points with a free throw at just over 10 minutes to play, but the Miners would respond with a 10-0 run to put the game away.
Although the two teams were close in total rebounds and finished the game tied at 14 turnovers apiece, UTEP outshot UNM 54% to 38% from the field and 78% to 66% from the free throw line. UNM entered the game as one of the top 15 teams in the nation in field goal shooting as a team but managed to make only 23 of 35 shots from the stripe.
With the loss, the Lobos fall to 3-5 on the season and 0-2 on the road. They will look to secure their first road victory of the season against the Colorado Buffalos on Wednesday before returning home for a rematch against the NM State Aggies on Saturday.
