The University of New Mexico football team continues to receive plenty of preseason recognition heading into the 2026 season, as Athlon Sports named 17 Lobos to its Preseason All-Mountain West Team, the second-highest total in the conference and the most first-team selections of any league program.
The honors highlight growing expectations for Jason Eck’s program after a breakthrough 2025 campaign that saw the Lobos finish 9-4, tie for the Mountain West title and return to postseason play. New Mexico’s seven first-team selections paced the conference, while the program placed players on all four teams announced by Athlon Sports.
Seven Lobos Earn First-Team Recognition
Leading the way offensively are running back Scottre Humphrey, wide receiver Troy Omeire, tight end Cade Keith, and center Kaden Robnett, giving New Mexico one of the conference’s most decorated offensive groups entering the season.
Defensively, defensive lineman Darren Agu, linebacker Jaxton Eck and safety Austin Brawley also earned first-team recognition after helping anchor one of the Mountain West’s top defenses a season ago.
The Lobos also placed four players on the second team, with offensive linemen Malik Aliane and Jaymar Tasi joined by defensive lineman Brian Booker and linebacker Mercury Swaim.
Third-team selections included offensive lineman Tyler Lawrence, cornerback Ormanie Arnold and safety Tavian Combs, while quarterback Jack Layne, defensive lineman Xavier Slayton and kick returner Abraham Williams rounded out the honors with fourth-team recognition.
The 17 selections trail only the conference’s overall leader, while New Mexico’s seven first-team picks stand alone atop the Mountain West. Earlier this offseason, Phil Steele’s preseason teams also recognized the Lobos with a conference-high 16 total selections.
New Mexico opens the 2026 season on Sept. 5 against Central Michigan at University Stadium.
Men’s Tennis Continues Roster Overhaul with Two More Additions
Head coach Rob Bareford continued building toward the 2026-27 season by adding Nikhil Srivatsa and Andrew Lavine to a recruiting class already considered one of the strongest among mid-major programs.
The additions join Juan Jose Neira Rodriguez, David Schwarc and Max Relic in a class that has been ranked No. 13 nationally among mid-major programs.
Srivatsa arrives from Monte Sereno, California, with an accomplished junior résumé. A four-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.com, he reached a USTA ranking of No. 132 and owns an 11.2 Universal Tennis Rating.
He competed in several prestigious national tournaments over the past year, including the Winter Nationals, Indoor Nationals, Clay Court Nationals and Hard Court Nationals, while earning runner-up finishes at multiple Level 2 doubles events. Away from the tennis court, Srivatsa has also found success as a triathlete.
“I chose UNM because it is a great opportunity to play tennis at the highest level, and I really love how I felt at home when I came,” Srivatsa said. “It is also a great fit for me as I thought the coaching staff was super welcoming.”
Lavine joins the Lobos after spending last season at UC Riverside, where he competed primarily at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles while earning Big West Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognition.
The Bellaire, Texas, native was also a four-star recruit coming out of high school and has competed internationally in ITF World Tour Futures events in Serbia, Spain and Germany. He is currently representing his talents at the Maccabiah Games in Tel Aviv alongside his brother.
“I chose UNM because of the environment of the program and the energy of the coaching staff,” Lavine said. “I want to thank Coach Bareford for believing in me. I’m excited to be a Lobo in the fall of 2026 and bring home a Mountain West Championship.”
Bareford praised both newcomers, noting Srivatsa’s long-term potential and Lavine’s competitive mindset as qualities that fit the culture the program continues to establish after capturing the Mountain West Tournament title last season.
Mountain West Launches MW+ Streaming Platform
Lobo fans will have a new way to watch their favorite teams this season with the official launch of MW+, the Mountain West’s new direct-to-consumer streaming platform powered by Kiswe.
The subscription service will significantly expand access to live events and exclusive content while creating a new revenue stream for each member institution. Most of every subscription purchased through a school’s dedicated page will directly benefit that university.
For New Mexico fans, MW+ will carry all Mountain West soccer and volleyball contests along with three Lobo football games that won’t appear on traditional television. Subscribers will also receive access to weekly and postgame press conferences, coaches’ shows, podcasts, classic games, and other exclusive programming.
Annual subscriptions are priced at $79.99, while monthly plans cost $10.99 and provide access to content from all 10 Mountain West institutions. As part of the launch, fans purchasing annual subscriptions during July, August, or September can receive a discounted rate of $67.99.
Mountain West Commissioner Gloria Nevarez called the platform “a game-changer” for the conference, noting that it expands fan access while creating new financial opportunities for member schools.
Powered by Kiswe’s interactive streaming technology, MW+ will offer live events unavailable through traditional broadcast partners, school-specific content hubs, on-demand replays, original programming, real-time fan engagement features, and opportunities for student-athletes to showcase their personal brands.
The service will be available worldwide across desktop and mobile browsers, Apple and Android devices, Apple TV, Android TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV and additional streaming platforms, with Amazon Prime Channels expected to be added in the future.
The launch represents a significant step in the Mountain West’s evolving media strategy as the conference looks to increase visibility for its student-athletes while giving fans greater access to live competition and exclusive behind-the-scenes content.
