After a poor showing as a reliever late last season, Walker Buehler returned to the mound at Dodger Stadium on Monday night to make his first MLB start. Although the top pitching prospect did not earn the win and walked three batters in five innings, Buehler flashed the talent that made him a first-round selection in the 2015 amateur draft.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound native of Lexington, Kentucky worked through a shaky first inning to notch five frames of shutout ball, with five strikeouts to go along with three walks. The hard-throwing righty flashed his ability to reach triple digits on the radar gun, hitting at least 99 MPH eight times against the Marlins.
The Dodgers went on to win the game 2-1 on a sacrifice fly by Cody Bellinger in the bottom of the eighth inning off of Marlins reliever Kyle Barraclough. The win moved the Dodgers to 11-10 on the season, four games behind NL West-leading Arizona.
