Jerry Jones on quarterback decision: Team will make decision week by week

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones views the team’s quarterback situation fluid, and will let it play out “play by play, series by series, and game by game,” according to a report by Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star Telegram.

With the Cowboys off to an impressive 7-1 start under rookie sensation Dak Prescott, Jones is understandably cautious to say whether or not Tony Romo will return to the starting lineup when fully recovered from his back injury.

Tony Romo is the team’s all time passing leader, but Prescott has been great this season and the offense as a whole is working well.

“The key thing I want to emphasize is we probably are never going to have this totally sorted out,” Jones said on his weekly radio show on 105.3 The Fan.

“We’re going to play it by ear, play it as it comes. We can do that. And to do it really right for the advantage of the team, which we deserve, he’s really got to be ready to go at the top of his game. We have the luxury of getting it back ready. When we do that, then we’ve got an edge that could carry us a long way. So I think what you’re going to have is you’re going to see Tony really playing well at practice, really being what he can be, which is in my mind, when he’s healthy, I don’t know that I’d trade him for anybody.”

Dallas faces a tough game this week on the road against a Pittsburgh Steelers team that just got embarrassed by Baltimore Week 9. Perhaps the quarterback situation will have more clarity based on how Prescott plays against the Steelers.
