Bats fall silent as Lobos fall to Cowboys 13-0 in Stillwater

UNM’s seven-game winning streak came to an abrupt end with a two-game series sweep at the hands of the No. 23 Oklahoma State Cowboys, highlighted by a lopsided 13-0 loss in Stillwater, OK on Wednesday afternoon.

Starting pitcher Joe Lienhard tossed six and one-third innings of one-hit baseball to earn the win. The Wichita, KS, native kept the previously hot-hitting Lobos hitless through five innings in route to a seven strikeout, three walk gem.

“Oklahoma State pitched like an Omaha team for two days,” UNM coach Ray Birmingham said via GoLobos.com. “I tip my hat to them. We are going to pitch like that in May. I promise.”

The Lobos would finish the game with just three hits in 30 at bats, with Danny Collier, Jared Mang, and Hayden Shilling each managing one single.

Austin Isenhart earned the loss for Birmingham’s squad after allowing seven earned runs over one and two-thirds innings of work. With the loss, the sophomore southpaw from San Dimas, CA fell to 2-1 on the season.

The Lobos (11-5) will look to bounce back in another tough road series this weekend with a three-game tilt against No. 7 Cal State Fullerton.
