Another day, another UNM Lobo men’s basketball player decides to take his talents to a new University.
According to an official release from UNM’s athletic department, freshman point guard Jalen Harris has asked for his release and will continue his college career with a new program. Harris, a 6-2, 165 native of Wilson, North Carolina averaged 4.5 points per game in 18 starts for head coach Craig Neal.
Harris joins Anthony Mathis, Elijah Brown, and Sam Logwood as four Lobos from the 2016-17 team that has decided to transfer away from UNM, leaving Neal with multiple roster spots to fill and numerous questions from concerned Lobo fans.
“It’s disappointing that we have a freshman that has decided to leave. We had really high hopes for Jalen, but he has a great future ahead of him and is an outstanding kid. We support his decision and wish him the best.”
In addition to transfer requests, the Lobos will also be without walk-on freshman Holt Shelley, who notified the school that he will attend a new university next semester and will not look to continue playing basketball.
