UNM Baseball: Wolf Pack complete series sweep with 14-1 win over Lobos on Sunday

Designated hitter Mike Echavia and left fielder Grant Fennel combined to go nine for ten, with nine RBI and two runs scored as the host Nevada Wolf Pack beat the visiting New Mexico Lobos 14-1 to complete a three-game weekend sweep on Sunday.

Nevada sacred 14 runs on 17 hits with three different players notching at least three hits, while starting pitcher Jake Jackson struck out seven batters in six innings of one-run ball to earn the win.

The Wolf Pack jumped on UNM starter Drew Gillespie early, with three runs in both the first and second innings of play to take an early six-run lead. Nevada would go onto score at least one run in each of the first five innings, including a four-run fifth inning off of relief pitcher Nathaniel Garley.

The Lobos were unable to get anything going offensively on the day, with the top five hitters combining to go one for 13 on the day.

With the loss, the Lobos fall to 12-21-1 on the year and 6-12 in Mountain West Conference play. The three-game sweep moves the Wolf Pack to a conference-best 14-4, 3.5 games ahead of second place UNLV.

The Lobos return home to take on Texas Tech University in a one-game series on Tuesday night before hosting UNLV in a three-game weekend series starting on April 20th at Santa Ana Star Field.
