Four-time pro bowl center Travis Frederick has been limited this preseason with what the team initially thought was a stinger. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, exhaustive tests revealed that Frederick is suffering from Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease that ranges from mild weakness to paralysis.
Frederick revealed his diagnosis via social media, stating that he is “very optimistic about my condition and the immediate future, as I have been told that the illness was detected at a fairly early stage.”
The five-year veteran said that he is hopeful to play this season, but his doctors are not sure when he can return to the field and whether or not he will miss the season opener against the Carolina Panthers.
Frederick’s injury is the latest blow to a Cowboy offensive line that is without starting guard Zach Martin, who left last week’s game against the Bengals early with a knee injury. The status of both players is up in the air as the Cowboys prepare for Week 3 of the preseason against Arizona on Sunday.
