According to a release from the UNM Athletic Department, Lobo forward Karim Ezzeddine “informed Lobo coach Paul Weir yesterday of his decision to leave the program immediately and pursue professional basketball opportunities overseas. He will withdraw from classes this semester and intends to sign a contract as soon as possible.”
The news does not come as a surprise after Ezzeddine did not attend UNM’s practice on Thursday following his premature departure from the bench with three minutes to play in Tuesday’s loss to San Diego State.
Weir told reporters at his weekly press conference on Thursday that he was not certain of the status of Ezzeddine and that he was communicating with the junior transfer. Friday’s press release from the school confirmed that Ezzeddine would leave the school immediately with the intention of playing pro ball overseas.
Ezzeddine averaged 4.3 points and 3.6 rebounds in 17 games as a Lobo. He averaged 17.1 minutes per game, but fewer than six minutes in three of his final four games with the team.
