Broncos Aquire Joe Flacco from Baltimore

According to Adam Schefter, the Broncos and Ravens have a trade agreement in place to send QB Joe Flacco to Denver. The deal cannot become official until the league year starts on March 13th.

The deal all but seals the fate of former starter Case Keenum, who struggled in his first and only season under center for Denver. In a year in which seven NFL quarterbacks completed over 70% of their passes, the journeyman QB ranked 30th among qualified QBs at 62%.

Although Flacco did not fare much better, and many may view the move as more lateral than vertical, Flacco does have more experience as a starter in both the regular and postseason, and he flourished under Gary Kubiak when they worked together in Baltimore. New offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello runs a version of Kubiak’s offense and should gel well with Flacco.

Mike Klis of 9News.com in Denver reports that the Broncos will likely send one of their two fourth-round picks in exchange for the veteran quarterback.

With regards to Keenum, he can stay on the team as the backup to Flacco if he chooses to restructure his $18-million salary due in 2019. According to Kliss, it is more likely that the Broncos trade Keenum or release him. By releasing Keenum, the Broncos would be required to pay the remaining $7 Million guaranteed on his contract, with a cap hit around $15 mil.
