UNM Basketball: Lobos to face No. 18 Auburn in Legends Classic

After two wins in the opening rounds of the Legends Classic, the Lobos (0-0, 5-1) are in Brooklyn, New York, to take on No. 18 Auburn (0-0, 5-0) at the Barclays Center. Now that the tournament has reached a more traditional setting, the Lobos know what’s ahead of them this week. Depending on the outcome, they will face either Wisconsin or Richmond in the championship or consolation game.

The undefeated Tigers started their season with five games in 13 days, but have had a week to prepare for the Lobos. The Tigers are led by senior guard Samir Doughty who is averaging 18.8 points per game.

With both teams averaging over 85 points per game, tonight’s game could be decided in the waning moments. Both sides are shooting over 50% from the field, and the Lobos know that they can make a statement with a win tonight.

Still, with five players averaging double figures, the Lobos could be a handful for their SEC opponents. Redshirt-senior JaQuan Lyle had another tremendous game against rivals New Mexico State, posting 24 points against the Aggies. The premier matchup to watch in tonight’s game will be that between Doughty and Lyle.

Historically the two schools have only met once before, with the Tigers winning 83-78.

Tonight’s game will tip-off at 7:30 pm Mountain Time and will be broadcast live on ESPNews.
