Rocky Long to return to UNM as Defensive Coordinator

Former UNM head coach Rocky Long has returned to the university to take over as defensive coordinator according to a Tweet from Lobo head coach Danny Gonzales.

Long, a former star quarterback for UNM back in the early 70’s returns to his alma matter after nine seasons as the head coach at San Diego State. Long posted an impressive 81-38 record at the helm of the SDSU program, leading the Aztecs to a bowl game in each of his nine campaigns.

Long will help head coach Gonzales turn around a struggling UNM program that had failed to post a winning record since 2016 when Bob Davie led the Lobos to a 9-4 record and a win in the New Mexico Bowl over UT-San Antonio.
