According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Patriots have released veteran quarterback Cam Newton and will go with rookie Mac Jones as their starting quarterback in week one against the Miami Dolphins.
Newton threw for 2,657 yards and eight passing touchdowns in his one season with the team.
Jones will face off against former college teammate Tua Tagovailoa to open the season.
