Lobo Round-Up: UNM Set to Upgrade Video Board at University Stadium as Part of Game DayExperience Overhaul

The future is getting brighter—literally—at University Stadium.

The University of New Mexico announced plans to upgrade the stadium’s north end zone video board, marking the first step in a larger effort to enhance the game day atmosphere for Lobo fans. The project signals the beginning of a new era for UNM Athletics, both on and off the field.

UNM recently capped off one of its most successful athletic years in history, finishing with more Mountain West championships than any other school and earning recognition as the top Group of Five program in the Learfield Directors’ Cup standings. Now, the focus shifts to building on that success by transforming the fan experience—starting with a state-of-the-art video board.

Backed by an $11 million capital outlay appropriation from the State of New Mexico and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, the upcoming improvements are part of a long-term vision to make University Stadium a premier destination on fall Saturdays.

“This investment is about more than just football—it’s about community, pride, and creating a venue New Mexicans can be proud of,” said UNM Vice President and Director of Athletics Fernando Lovo. “Fans want energy, value, and memories. This upgrade is just the beginning of delivering all three.”

The new video board, produced in partnership with Daktronics, will feature a high-definition 10mm pixel pitch, ensuring sharper visuals, vibrant colors, and increased brightness. Although the board’s dimensions—more than 31 feet high and stretching nearly the width of the field—will remain the same, the quality of the visuals and overall game day presentation will be a major leap forward. The project is slated for completion ahead of UNM’s home opener against Idaho State on September 6.

Already among the largest video boards in the Mountain West, the upgraded display promises to bring every moment of Lobo Football to life—whether it’s a touchdown celebration, instant replay, or in-game fan interaction.

“The video board was something fans consistently pointed to as an area that needed improvement,” Lovo said. “This is a visible, high-impact change that will immediately elevate the experience. And it’s only the start.”

More fan-focused enhancements are on the horizon, as Lobo Athletics continues to align its facilities with the championship-level performance taking place across its programs. Whether it’s students, alumni, families, or lifelong Lobo supporters, the vision is clear: create a home field that reflects the pride, passion, and potential of New Mexico.

The next chapter in Lobo Football is coming into focus—and it’s going to be in high definition.
