$100K+ Purse Pushes 2025 Turtleback Mountain New Mexico Open Into National Spotlight

The 2025 Turtleback Mountain Golf & Resort New Mexico Open is set to make history this September, staking its claim as one of the premier PGA Section tournaments in the nation. With a record-breaking purse exceeding $100,000, the championship has entered the Top 10 PGA Section events in the U.S., drawing a star-studded field, record sponsor support, and unprecedented community enthusiasm.

The tournament, scheduled for September 15–17, 2025, will host 155 players, including PGA TOUR veteran and two-time winner Matt Every, Korn Ferry Tour professional AJ Crouch, NCAA champion Todd Demsey, and more than 150 PGA of America professionals from the Sun Country Section.

This year marks the beginning of a three-year partnership between Turtleback Mountain Golf & Resort and the Sun Country PGA Section, making the resort the exclusive home of the New Mexico Open through 2027. With its newly renovated championship course, sweeping desert views, and rapidly expanding amenities, Turtleback is positioning itself as a rising golf destination in the American Southwest.

A Record-Breaking Tournament

The 2025 edition has already shattered records off the course. More than 20 sponsors have signed on—the most in tournament history—including Bin Store Brands, Zapps Wholesale, Live Forever Golf, Fiji Water & Beverage, and Masek Rocky Mountain Golf Cars. Volunteer slots filled in just three days, highlighting the deep community excitement surrounding the event.

“This is the strongest relationship we’ve ever had in the long history of the New Mexico Open,” said Cory Armstrong, Executive Director of the Sun Country PGA Section. “The course is in top-tier condition, and the commitment to quality—from infrastructure to hospitality—is unmatched.”

Pro-Am Party and Fan Experience

Before the main event, the annual Pro-Am on September 14 promises to deliver both competition and entertainment. Nearly sold out, the event features live music, culinary stations, pop-up bars, and an exclusive after-party for players, sponsors, and VIPs. Proceeds will benefit the Sun Country Golf Foundation, which supports youth, military, and inclusion initiatives across the region.

Fans can expect a dynamic spectator experience. The championship will be streamed live on Facebook, while PGA TOUR winner Matt Every and his co-hosts from the podcast Straight Down The Middle will provide on-site coverage. A massive 17’x12’ video wall at the clubhouse will feature live scoring, interviews, and highlights, ensuring fans don’t miss a moment.

“This is what golf should feel like—it’s competition, connection, and culture, all in one spectacular setting,” said Dan Fletcher, Chief Marketing Officer for Turtleback Mountain Golf & Resort.

Recognition and Growth

Earlier this year, state and local leaders—including the Governor of New Mexico, the Sierra County Commission, and the Mayor of Elephant Butte—proclaimed March 25, 2025, as Turtleback Mountain Golf & Resort Day, recognizing the resort’s growing role in the state’s economy and culture.

With its record purse, elite field, and unmatched fan experience, the 2025 Turtleback Mountain New Mexico Open is primed to set a new standard for state championships and elevate Southern New Mexico as a destination for competitive golf.
